obscurities - fine art project by darah soria - fort collins - Darah Soria

12/21/2018 - winter solstice

I'm ecstatic to share the official release date of "obscurities." Obscurities is a featured photo project featuring the story of an ambiguous character who learns to overcome her personal demons by accepting the darkness which lives within her.

This is a fine arts project which has been in the works for nearly two years. There is a continuous theme of shadows and ghosts using skilled  photography techniques and methodologies.

Prints will be available for purchase as a means to support this project, while the written story will be available online with my other fine artworks, and with a coffee table book to be released within the next year.

This project, while having some parts released on solstice of 2018, is not done and more is to come.

It comes after a major decision to discontinue a lot of the services I have offered in the past. I have realized that working for people has has truly taken away the magic of photography for me. Truth be told, I became  burnt out when it became a thankless job, I had my first run-in with copyright infringement on my work, hostile clients and the list goes on. Out of frustration I nearly gave up a passion and sadly it was not my clients who convinced me to stick with it - it was my friends, family and fans.

With that said, I appreciate all of the clients I have had whom have made it possible for me to experiment and try my hand at new things. I will be forever grateful.

Because business to business photography is less demanding, I have opted to shift my focus to that when I am not focusing on fine art projects or mentoring other up and coming photographers; and running my second business as a sole proprietor which will demand the majority of my attention beginning in January 2019.

My goal is not to abandon my clients, but to re-approach the beauty of photography which drew me to it over a decade ago. It wasn't turning profit. It using it to funnel a world of chaos.
